Hello, my name is Miguel A. Arce Ramos. I am currently an English middle school teacher at the Soledad Middle School and a university professor at the Pontifical Catholic University.
I was born on January 23, 1980 in Newark, New Jersey. I lived in New Jersey until the age of 13 when my parents decided to relocate to their homeland, Puerto Rico. In Puerto Rico, I finished high school at the José de Diego High School in Mayagüez. Upon graduating in 1997, I began my educational journey at the Inter American University in San Germán, Puerto Rico. In 2002, I finished my Bachelor of Arts in English as a Second Language. Interestingly, at the Inter American University, I began my teaching career. At the young age of 18, I accepted a teaching position at the Inter American University Language Labs, teaching the skills of listening and speaking. My experience at the language labs led me to earning the best internship award handed by the Inter American University as the best English student teacher in May 2002. Just before graduating in 2002, I became certified as an English teacher for the elementary and secondary level.
In August 2002, I began to work for Puerto Rico's Department of Education at the Henry W. Longfellow Elementary School in San Germán, Puerto Rico. In 2003, I began doing my Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at the Inter American University. I completed my degree in 2006. For the past ten years, I have continued to work for the Department of Education in different schools at different levels. I have worked the elementary level at Henry W. Longfellow in San Germán, Rio Cañas Arriba in Mayagüez and Antonio González Suarez in Añasco. I have worked the Middle School level at Soledad Middle School in Mayagüez. Finally, I have worked at the High School level at the Lola Rodriguez de Tío in San Germán and at the Pablo Cassasus High School in Mayagüez.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have taken extensive training in computer software. I have taken over two hundred contact hours as part of the CENIT project and AFORMAR (a proposal for technology based education given to high qualified teachers at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus). I am also the head teacher for the CENIT project in my school. The CENIT project is a project that focuses on teaching technology to teachers so that we can infuse it in our classrooms.
In 2007, I began teaching at the Pontifical Catholic University in Mayagüez, where I have taught basic English courses to Literature and Advanced Linguistic courses. Given my experience, I have acquired an expertise in presentation training through classes and through private tutoring services. My teaching career has given me everything that I have today and I hope I can share my experience to the benefit of anyone who I have taught or will teach.
